The TaterScots Shine at FUN League Tournament, Two Students Earn Dean’s List Honors

TaterScots at FUN League Tournament

Saint Andrew’s School robotics team #641, The TaterScots, delivered an outstanding performance at the recent FUN League tournament hosted by Pahokee Middle & High School, solidifying their reputation as one of Florida’s top competitive robotics teams.

The TaterScots went undefeated across all five matches, extending their impressive season record and earning a signature victory in a high-stakes 2v2 match against an alliance of the tournament’s #1 and #2 seeded teams. With this dominant showing, the team is now ranked in the Top 3% of their league and in the Top 10% statewide.

On the technical side, the team continues to excel globally. The TaterScots are currently ranked in the Top 3% worldwide for autonomous coding performance, achieving a global ranking of 97.37%. During the autonomous period, a 30-second phase where robots score points entirely through pre-programmed code with no driver input, the team’s precision and innovation continue to set them apart.

In addition to their competitive success, the team is celebrating individual honors. Yixuan (Shirley) Hu ’27 and Ziyou (Tim) Tian ’27 have been named Dean’s List Semifinalists, a prestigious recognition from FIRST that honors students who demonstrate exceptional leadership, dedication, and commitment to their teams. Shirley has been part of the robotics program since grade 8, while Tim has been a key contributor for the past three years. Both students will advance to interviews with program judges as they pursue a state finalist designation and have earned automatic invitations to the state competition.

The TaterScots return to action on Saturday, January 31, at Boca Raton High School for the final league competition. The team will compete in qualifying matches and the Alliance Selection playoff bracket, aiming to secure a bid at the State Championship in Winter Haven for the fourth consecutive year.
