Saint Andrew's School is proud to announce that Matthew Spina '26 has been selected as a winner of the prestigious National Merit $2500 Scholarship. This distinguished award, underwritten by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), recognizes outstanding academic achievement and promise among high school students nationwide.
The National Merit $2500 Scholarship is one of the most competitive academic distinctions in the country. Among all students who entered the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program, only about 16,000 were named Semifinalists. Saint Andrew's had five Semifinalists this year. To advance in the competition and be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, a Semifinalist had to become a Finalist by fulfilling several requirements, including submitting a detailed scholarship application and presenting a record of very high academic performance. All winners of about 6,930 National Merit Scholarships are chosen from the group of more than 15,000 distinguished Finalists.
Matthew's selection places him among an elite group of scholars from across the nation. This achievement reflects not only his exceptional academic abilities but also Saint Andrew's School's commitment to academic excellence.
