Saint Andrew’s Hosts 2nd Annual SA Model United Nations Conference

Saint Andrew’s Model UN students posing in Scots Square during 2nd Annual SA Model United Nations Conference

On Sunday, October 12, 154 Upper School students from Saint Andrew's School, Boca Raton High School, and Palmer Trinity School gathered on campus in the Dr. Albert C. Cohen Center for Entrepreneurial Studies, Henderson Hall, and Charles and Hagerty Hall, to participate in the 2nd Annual Saint Andrew's Model UN Conference. Organized and run by the Saint Andrew's Model United Nations Team, participants explored various historical and current world issues and devised solutions through discussion, negotiation, and debate.

The SAMUN II Conference consisted of seven different committees that student delegates could serve on. Students simulated roles as delegates on two General Assembly committees. One focused on the role of Artificial Intelligence in Global Health Care, while the other focused on UN peacekeeping operations and the protection of cultural heritage sites. Individual student delegates represented the likes of India, Russia, Ghana, China, Turkey, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Canada, Thailand, and many more.

There were also two "crisis" committees- one historical and one futuristic. In the historical crisis committee, delegates assumed the roles of Athenian and Spartan historical figures and attempted to negotiate and solve "The Peace of Nicias, 421 B.C." The futuristic crisis committee focused on the topic of Cold War II- 2040 A.D.:, Battle for Antarctica," in which delegates assumed roles of various current and likely future politicians, negotiating claims for the newly discovered valuable resources in Antarctica. Lastly, student delegates served on an emergency Ad Hoc committee that addressed a new and deadly global pandemic: "The Black Dawn Virus." In addition to our delegates' roles, numerous SA MUN Team Members served in the prestigious Committee Chairs roles for both General Assemblies, Crisis, and Ad Hoc Committees.

The Saint Andrew's Model UN team performed impressively, as many resolutions, treaties, and solutions were created. For many students, this was their first in-person MUN Conference. Overall, all the SA Model United Nations Conference participants did amazing! And an extra special congratulations goes to Elan Beker '28, Dylan Bender '27, Jordan Jaffe '27, Caroline Martin '27, Daniel Pal '27, Jonas Peisger '27, Alyssa Santiago '27, and Jayden Shaw '27, for winning individual awards in their committees! Congrats to all our Saint Andrew's MUN Conference participants, and thank you to the entire SA Community for your support of Saint Andrew's Model United Nations!
