Max Stossel Inspires Intentional Digital Living at Saint Andrew's

Max Stossel speaking to parents at Wellness Series event in FOA Lobby

Saint Andrew's School successfully hosted digital wellness expert Max Stossel, founder of Social Awakening, as part of our ongoing Wellness Series. Stossel delivered powerful presentations to parents, Middle School, and Upper School students on the critical impact of social media and tools for managing its effects.

Stossel, a former media strategist for social media companies, revealed how platforms are intentionally designed to maximize user attention and create addictive experiences. He challenged the community to ask: “Am I using technology, or is technology using me?"

For our students, his talks emphasized that while technology is a powerful tool, its design can negatively affect mental health and focus. With parents and caregivers, he offered actionable strategies for families, stressing the importance of leading by example and setting healthy, intentional digital boundaries at home. Practical tools shared included:

  • Turning off non-essential notifications.
  • Checking in on how an app makes you feel.
  • Replacing digital boredom with real-world activities.

The success of the Max Stossel visit underscores Saint Andrew's dedication to holistic wellness and ensuring our students have the knowledge and tools to thrive in an increasingly digital world. This impactful day was made possible through the generosity of Saint Andrew's families who understand and support our mission of nurturing every student in mind, body, and spirit and helping them to create and sustain balanced and purposeful lives.

Our next event in our Wellness Series is on Friday, January 30, when Dr. Matthew Zakreski will share his expertise on helping our children regulate their emotions and develop other essential executive functioning skills.
