On June 4, Saint Andrew’s Alumnae, Maya Sharma '23, became the first Saint Andrew’s student to receive an award at the Kravis Center Dream Awards.
The Kravis Center Dream Awards recognizes outstanding student achievement in musical theater productions and culminates in a showcase in Dreyfoos Hall.
Competing with several other high school students, Maya came out on top with the award for Outstanding Lead Actress for her performance in the Upper School’s production of Freaky Friday.
Maya will now perform in New York at the Jimmy Awards, a national celebration of outstanding student achievement, recognizing individual artistry in vocal, dance, and acting performance and elevating the importance of theatre arts education in schools. The Jimmy Awards are presented by The Broadway League Foundation.
“It is a wonderful thing when a student who is so incredibly dedicated and talented receives recognition of their work in the Performing Arts. Maya is a deeply gifted singer, actor, and dancer, who has served as a leader within our student Musical Companies. She is committed to her craft and her pursuit of professional training and a career as an artist. I have no doubt that she will be successful in these endeavors, as I have been fortunate enough to witness her hard work firsthand. Maya has been a true joy to know and to direct, and I could not be more proud and excited for her,” Director of Performing Arts, Laurie Riffe says.
The Jimmy Awards will take place on June 26, 2023, at 7:30 pm at Broadway's Minskoff Theatre. The Jimmy Awards will be live-streamed. If you would like to learn more about the Jimmy Awards, please visit their information page here.
