Upper School Chapel Honors Veterans with Reflections on Service and Purpose

Veterans Day Chapel Collage 2025

In honor of Veterans Day, the Saint Andrew's Upper School community gathered for a special chapel featuring three guest speakers who shared powerful reflections drawn from their own experiences in military service. Captain Ryan Santicola, Judge Advocate, United States Navy; Mr. Vince Antoniotti; and Mrs. Emily Nichols each offered unique perspectives on what it means to serve and how purpose guides that service both in and beyond the military.

Captain Santicola spoke about the "common purpose that Veterans Day recommits us to," encouraging students to consider how they, too, can contribute to the cause of peace and justice "in whatever role they serve today and in the future."

Vince Antoniotti, a US mathematics teacher, talked about what he learned at The U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and challenged students to think deeply about how they live out their values, reminding them that "your purpose isn't bound in what you achieve; it's bound in how you achieve it and in how you serve."

Emily Nichols, Performing Arts teacher, reflected on her experience in the Army, describing music as her "way of carrying her pack." She inspired students to find meaning and service in their own responsibilities, adding that "the pack is heavy, yes, but it's shared and in that sharing, we find strength, purpose, and a reminder that we're never alone."

The service also featured music selections, including "This Land is Your Land" and "Brothers in Arms," performed by Dr. Gresser & Friends. The musical selections in honor of the occasion added a poignant and celebratory tone to the chapel gathering.

Together, the speakers and musicians offered the Saint Andrew's community a heartfelt reminder of the enduring purpose found in serving others, promoting peace, and embracing something greater than oneself.
