The BIG Ordinary

Megan Dejo working with a student in 3D Studio Art class at Saint Andrew's School.

Students in Ms. Dejo's 3D Art Studio are working on large-scale cardboard projects as part of a unit called "The BIG Ordinary." For this assignment, they select small, everyday objects and recreate them on a much larger scale. The project emphasizes the artistic strategies of scale and proportion, while also challenging students to engineer cardboard for structure and stability. Through this process, they discover how ordinary objects take on new meaning when exaggerated. The class also explores the work of pop artists such as Claes Oldenburg, examining how they used common, everyday items as inspiration for bold artistic expression.
