Spanish for Heritage Learners Tackle Global Challenges with PSAs

Spanish for Heritage Learners video collage

For the past several weeks, the Spanish for Heritage Learners class has been researching and creating campaigns to spread awareness about various global challenges. These include hunger, illness, natural disasters, child abuse, and poverty. As part of their campaigns, they created public service announcements about their topics in Spanish with English subtitles. The goal of the project is to share information and give people ways to help alleviate the problems.

The project included multiple steps. For the group portion, students came up with a slogan, created an informational poster (to be exhibited in Cohen), made an informational page on a social media platform, and recorded a public service announcement for the WSAS broadcast. For the individual portion, students wrote a blog entry expressing their position on the issues related to their global challenge. Finally, they were required to research a company or organization that works to alleviate some of the effects of the global challenge they chose and create an informational brochure about what the company or organization does.
