Spanish 1 Makes Empanadas

Spanish 1 students making empanadas

Señora Shepherd's Spanish 1 class went to Great Mariani Hall for a culinary lesson with Eddie Vargas with SAGE dining. Mr. Vargas taught the students about what an empanada is and how to make one. Empanada means "wrap and coat with bread." Mr. Vargas explained that all cultures have their own versions of empanadas including egg rolls, spanakopitas, samosas, pot pies, and even Pop Tarts! Each student had the chance to try their hand at making a chicken or beef empanada. The SAGE dining team then cooked up the empanadas the students made so that they could taste their delectable creations. What an educational and delicious lesson!
