MS Students Honored with Learner Profile Award for Communicators

IB Learner Profile Communicators Award Winners

This past week in Chapel, we recognized the next round of students selected by the grade-level teams as students who clearly embody the IB Learner Profile attribute of Communicator. To honor the virtues that they bring to our school community as role models, the grade-level teams wrote a short summary of why these students epitomize this attribute.

According to the IB, Communicators "...express [themselves] confidently and creatively in more than one language and in many ways. [They] collaborate effectively, listening carefully to the perspectives of other individuals and groups."

The students who received the Communicators Award are:

Grade 6 - Sage Mortensen
Polite, friendly, and genuinely caring, Sage always wears a smile and greets others with sincerity. Sage shines in seminars with her ability to share ideas. She actively listens to her classmates, poses thoughtful questions, and articulates her own perspectives respectfully. Moreover, she demonstrates a strong work ethic showing genuine interest in learning while she builds deeper understanding through discussing ideas and reflecting on her learning. A skilled communicator, Sage confidently engages with her peers and adults, making her a strong ambassador valued for her contributions as she showcases what it means to be a Scot!

Grade 7 - Lauren Rigal
Lauren Rigal is an exceptional communicator, confidently and appropriately expressing her thoughts both in writing and verbally. She is not afraid to voice her opinions, even when they differ from others, and advocates for her beliefs and desires with unwavering determination. Lauren's ability to effectively communicate and stand up for what she believes in makes her an invaluable asset to any class or group.

Grade 8 - Bella Kurstin
One only had to listen to her MYP Community Project presentation to understand why Bella was chosen for this award. The layers with which she explored her topic and communicated her ideas in so many different ways to so many members of the Scot community required great connection to and dissemination of information. This is not a skill that can be easily taught, but Bella rose to the challenge with grace and determination and continues to do so in all aspects of her academic, athletic, and personal life.

Join us in congratulating these students for exemplifying the important attributes of being a Communicator!
