MS IB Learner Profile Award - Balanced

Balanced Learner Profile Award Winners

I am happy to present the newest round of IB Learner Profile Attribute awards recipients, whom we celebrated in Chapel. The members of each grade-level team identified these students as being students who clearly embody the IB Learner Profile Attribute of Balanced. To honor the virtues they bring to our school community as role models, the grade-level teams also wrote a summary of why these students epitomize these attributes.

According to the IB, Balanced learners "...understand the importance of balancing different aspects of [their] lives – intellectual, physical, and emotional – to achieve well-being for ourselves and others. [They] recognize [their] interdependence with other people and with the world in which [they] live."

The students who received the Balanced award were:

Grade 6 - Hunter Whyte
Hunter is balanced in all aspects of his school life experience here at Saint Andrew's. Not only does he consistently express a growth mindset, he recognizes the importance of being reflective in his life's journey. Hunter regularly supports his peers and seems to intuitively know when a peer might need a boost. He is inclusive, thoughtful, and empathetic toward others' needs. Additionally, he is dedicated to excelling in his intellectual, creative, and athletic pursuits, setting high standards for himself. These qualities contribute to Hunter's natural leadership abilities and his ability to inspire others to strive for excellence.

Grade 7 - Mathias Mendez
Mathias exemplifies the essence of a "balanced" learner through his remarkable ability to juggle academic excellence, a spot on a varsity team, and traveling for athletics outside of school. His level-headed approach to stress and social interactions, combined with his unwavering kindness and responsibility, sets a commendable example for his peers. Mathias's dedication to maintaining balance in every facet of his life truly makes him deserving of this recognition.

Grade 8 - Mark Nieter
Whether on the field, in the classroom, or out in the community, Mark manages to somehow be his best self, no matter the situation. This ability to balance himself in mind, body, and spirit was extremely apparent to the Grade 8 team during the trip to D.C. He was the "go-to" person for faculty and students alike, able to help those in need while also prioritizing his own needs. Mark understands the importance of giving his all but still keeping some of that "all" to fill his own bucket.

Join us in congratulating these students for being Balanced Scots!
