MS IB Learner Profile Awards – Open-Minded

Middle school students recognized for being Open-Minded on stage

This week during assembly, we recognized students selected by the grade-level teams for being students who embody the IB Learner Profile attribute of being Open-Minded. Below is the list of students and the words that were said about them by their teachers. 

 

Grade 6:

Nathalia De Lima: This student has shown great open-mindedness both academically and socially. She willingly tries new approaches, persevering through challenges by regularly attending extra help sessions multiple times a week. Additionally, she genuinely values hearing different perspectives and thoughtfully considers the viewpoints of her friends and classmates.

Heather Rutherford: This student consistently demonstrates open-mindedness both in and outside the classroom. When completing assignments, she effectively adopts the perspective of a character, showcasing a strong understanding of different viewpoints. She also prioritizes others' feelings and ensures her friends and classmates feel heard and understood when collaborating in a group.

 

Grade 7:

Luke Jenyns: This student exemplifies the qualities of an open-minded learner through his creativity, curiosity, and enthusiasm for both his own work and that of his peers. He asks thoughtful questions and takes pride in participating in the learning experience, often finding clever and appropriate ways to parlay his ideas into fun and engaging contributions. His willingness to explore different perspectives and engage with the ideas of others makes him a deserving recipient of this recognition.

Castelli Coleman: This student is the embodiment of what it means to be open-minded, approaching her experiences in academics and athletics with curiosity and a willingness to grow. She listens attentively, processes and applies new information, and elevates ideas with her thoughtful contributions. Her ability to encourage and support her peers in their own learning journey highlights her unique and collaborative mindset.

 

Grade 8:

Shyan Caseram: This student opens her heart and mind to all students, always extending friendship to others. She is extremely respectful and accepting of diverse points of view, both in and out of the classroom. Her open-mindedness is evident as she remains open to diverse perspectives, considering their merit, and being willing to grow from the experience. 

Tyler Darnell: This student’s bright smile and positive attitude serve as a reminder to faculty, staff, and students alike to greet each day with an open mind. One of the traits that sets this student apart from his peers is his willingness to take ownership for his actions, both good and bad, and learn from them. He sets an example for us all to try and be our best selves in every situation
