During Chapel on Thursday, April 25, we recognized the next round of students selected by the grade-level teams for being students who clearly embody the IB Learner Profile attributes of being a Risk-Taker. To honor the virtues that they bring to our school community as role models, the grade-level teams wrote a short summary of why these students epitomize these attributes.
According to IB, Risk-Takers “...approach uncertainty with forethought and determination; [they] work independently and cooperatively to explore new ideas and innovative strategies. [They] are resourceful and resilient in the face of challenges and change.”
The students who received the Risk-Takers Award are:
Grade 6 - Mayane Mouala
Mayane truly embodies what it means to be a risk-taker, both in and outside of the classroom. Since joining our community this year, she has navigated uncertainty with determination, reaching out to make new friends and actively involving herself in various activities. Mayane fearlessly took on the challenge of sharing her gifts with the Saint Andrew’s community through participating in the middle school musical and presenting at TEDx. Her adventurous spirit is also evident in her approach to learning. She willingly collaborates on projects with anyone which exemplifies her open-mindedness and adaptability. Moreover, she explores creativity and humor in her writing, taking risks that showcase her unique voice. Overall, Mayane possesses a strong sense of self, demonstrating that with determination and courage, anything is possible.
Grade 7 - Sienna Kourjakian
Sienna embodies the essence of a true risk-taker. Her willingness to embrace challenges extends to the classroom, where she consistently puts forth her best effort on all tasks, unafraid of making mistakes and always open to working with anyone, not just those within her circle of friends. Her risk-taking is particularly evident in her standout performances in swimming, where she fearlessly competes in challenging events, and doesn’t back down from one-on-one races against larger opponents. Sienna's quiet force and lack of boastfulness, combined with her fearless approach to both academic and athletic pursuits, make her a remarkable example of courage and resilience.
Grade 8 - Blake Roberts
Whether in class or on the stage, Blake is constantly pushing himself out of his comfort zone. This commitment to trying new things in order to be his best self inspires his teachers and classmates alike, and we should all challenge ourselves to “be like Blake” and find ways to actively improve who we are, how we think, and what we do, each and every day.
