Honors African American History and Literature Class Visits Spady Cultural Heritage Museum

Honors African American History and Literature course visited the Spady Cultural Heritage Museum

On Thursday, April 10, Saint Andrew’s students in the Honors African American History and Literature course visited the Spady Cultural Heritage Museum in downtown Delray Beach to learn about the history of Delray Beach and its historically-Black neighborhoods.

The Spady Cultural Heritage Museum is the former home of local educator S.D. Spady, and is dedicated to the preservation of Black culture and Black history in downtown Delray Beach. The museum highlights the role of African descendants in building our local communities. Students were also able to tour the historically-Black neighborhoods of Delray Beach to gain insight into the history of our local communities, especially as it relates to the history of the Jim Crow Era in South Florida.

Through the tour, students were able to appreciate the cultural legacy of our local Black communities and better understand the contemporary issues they face.
