Hispanic Heritage Month Celebrated in Upper School Chapel

Student speaking in chapel

This week's Upper School chapel was dedicated to celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.

Maria Lombana '25, president of the Hispanic Honor Society, spoke about the Pulsera Project, a nonprofit organization that connects Central American artists with students in more than 3,600 U.S. schools through the sale of colorful handwoven bracelets, known as "pulseras" in Spanish.

The Upper School Guitar Ensemble, led by Mr. Louis Martinez, performed songs written and performed by Hispanic musicians including Afro-Cuban Lullaby and La Bamba. Sophie Chew '25 performed Opus 60 #11 as a solo.

Readings from Deuteronomy and Matthew were read by Vittorio Pin-Mariotto '26 and Jocelyn Villalba '25.

The main chapel talk was given by Lea Franiuk '26, president of the Hola Club. Lea spoke about the pride she has for her Hispanic heritage and how much she enjoys taking part in Hispanic traditions with her family, especially around the holidays.

Luciana Espinoza '26 guided the chapel to a close by reading the final prayer, El Padre Nuestro, in Spanish.
