Grade 7 STEMulated By Catapults

MS girls testing a catapult in science class at Saint Andrew's School

Students in Mr. Bello's grade 7 science class, were reaching new heights as they tested out handmade catapults. They created catapults from scratch using everyday materials such as pencils, cardboard, rubber bands, and popsicle sticks.

The STEM project required students to design blueprints, construct their catapults, and conduct tests to achieve specific goals. Their objective was to propel objects with precision while also aiming for distances of 15 feet and heights of 6 feet. After each student tested their catapult, Mr. Bello opened the floor to a discussion with the students about what they thought about the project along with the struggles and triumphs they experienced throughout.

This hands-on STEM activity not only showcased the creativity, ingenuity, and engineering skills of the students but also deepened their understanding of scientific principles in action.
