Grade 6 Students Collect Data on the Solar System Using Fun Model

Middle School students standing together doing science experiment in the hallway wearing safety goggles

Grade 6 students in Mr. Jack Herr's science class are currently studying the solar system and the forces that keep the planets in orbit. Part of their study has them investigating the relationship between a planet’s distance from the sun and its orbital period or the time it takes to make one revolution around the sun. Using a model seen in the photos, students collected data, analyzed their data, and then drew conclusions based on that data. The use of models helps students get perspective on places that are difficult to study due to size and scale.
