Grade 5 Learns to Weave in Art Class

Grade 5 students weaving in art class

Grade 5 students have been learning about civilizations and historical expansion, including the Westward Expansion. In art class, the students are connecting what they are been studying by looking at textile art from ancient civilizations and weavings made in traditional ways by indigenous peoples of the West.

Students also learned about contemporary textile artists working with weaving, learned the vocabulary of weaving, and are now experimenting with a variety of different approaches and designs, crafting their own textile art using a loom.
