Grade 4 Celebrates El día de los Muertos

Grade 4 students celebrating dia de los muertos in Crangi Foyer with orange flowers

El día de los Muertos is a series of celebrations that are held in Mexico and other Spanish-speaking countries to honor our ancestors and keep their memories alive on November 1 and 2 each year. In preparation for these celebrations, families create an ofrenda in their homes, similar to the ofrenda currently in the Crangi Foyer.

On Tuesday, October 21, students in Grade 4 had the opportunity to bring orange paper flowers, usually based on marigolds or cempasúchil, that they had made in class and place them at our School's ofrenda. These "flowers of the dead" are often used to create pathways to the altar, in garlands, and as decorative elements on ofrendas, with their colors symbolizing the sun and life.
