Grade 1 Take PYP Journeys Around the World

Students in grade 1 have been studying Where We Are in Place and Time, focusing on how people use skills and tools to prepare for and take journeys. The students learned about the journeys that people make, the tools we use for our journeys, and the reasons people plan a journey.

Throughout our learning we began to learn and understand the importance of research and nonfiction texts. Students in each classroom chose a country that the class was interested in. We learned about the tools we would need to take a journey there, what the weather was so we knew what to pack, ways to move around the country, different food and landmarks in the country, and the languages that are spoken.

Once this research was completed the students then took their journeys to these countries. 1A visited China, 1B traveled to Italy, and 1C went to Argentina. The students enjoyed different foods and activities that represented everything that they had researched.

It was an excellent way for the students to be able to bring to life what they had learned.
