Gone Fishin' with AP Environmental Science

Fishing in the lake at SA

This week, Mr. Mcleod's AP Environmental Science class examined various techniques used to capture various fish species. One of the greatest threats to fish populations worldwide is overfishing, and understanding the gear and technology used to capture fish is critical to provide insight into how overfishing can occur.

The students examined a small fishing vessel, fly fishing gear, spinning and bait casting rods, and large deepsea fishing gear, including a massive electric reel system. After introducing the equipment, students used some of the gear to catch fish from the pond.
