FAU Professor Speaks About Coral Reef Development to SA Students

On Friday, September 22, Dr. Anton Oleinik, a professor at Florida Atlantic University, spoke to the Honors Marine Science class about the impact that changes in climate have had on coral reefs in the Caribbean and Florida. During his presentation in the Cohen Center auditorium, “Coral Reef Development off Southeast Florida During the Late Holocene,” Dr. Oleinik explained the biological and socioeconomic importance of coral reefs, the range expansion of the Southeast Florida reef tract in the Holocene, and the bleaching and diseases damaging coral reefs since the 1970s, leading to the unprecedented death of corals and coral reefs.
