AP Pre-Calculus Gets Competitive

Lisa Winer with AP Pre-Calc students at Saint Andrew's School.

Students in Dr. Winer's AP Pre-Calculus class participated in an engaging and competitive game designed to reinforce their understanding of AP multiple-choice problems from their first unit. Working in teams of two, students tackled a series of challenging questions, getting two chances to solve each one correctly after checking with Dr. Winer. Once a team received confirmation that their solution was correct, one member would rush to the board to write their initials in any available box.

As the game progressed and the board filled up, the competition heated up—teams could erase another pair’s initials from a numbered box and replace them with their own. The team with the most initials on the board by the end of class would be declared the winner. This dynamic activity not only provided valuable practice for an upcoming quiz, but also encouraged collaboration, movement, and an interactive classroom environment, offering a lively alternative to traditional desk work.
