Faculty Priorities

Investing in Teaching Excellence

Just as students require support to ensure maximum achievement of educational objectives, those who are delivering a prep school instruction require an institutional support structure that enables and encourages them to teach with excellence and effectiveness. It is imperative for independent day and boarding schools to elevate teaching in order to realize their vision. Saint Andrew’s School is no exception.

As reported in Independent School, published by the National Association of Independent Schools, “more educators are recognizing that collaborative learning is an effective way for students to learn to problem solve, recognize patterns, develop successful research methods, communicate with peers, and improve writing skills. These are the skills and habits of mind that students will need most to live confident, productive, successful lives in the 21st century. Education should now be about students growing from the inside out, not the outside in, developing their unique sense of self, not simply fitting in. Collaborative learning, with its emphasis on students taking much more responsibility for their learning and the learning of their classmates, can help our students find the individuality that is so crucial to living fulfilling lives. Helping our students along that path should be the goal of modern education.”

Enhancing Funding for Teaching Excellence

Defining a clear vision of teaching excellence must involve establishing a clear plan to develop resources to support teachers as they strive for excellence. We envision a community where teaching excellence becomes the primary vehicle to “transform’ our students and promote the use of technology and innovative techniques in the classroom and incorporate scholarship and practical experience in our teaching. Your support will ensure we will meet our goal of teaching excellence.

Your gifts toward Teaching Excellence are an investment in talent, which ultimately broadens everyone’s education at SAS. To help preserve this strong community, please consider:
  • endowing a scholarship
  • setting up a planned gift, or
  • contributing to the Saint Andrew’s Annual Fund and designating it to “Teaching Excellence.”
