In addition to our Day, Sports, Travel, and Overnight programs, Saint Andrew's also offers one to two-week targeted skill programming. Each of these programs gives the camper time to learn and refine their sport under the direction and support of leaders in the field.

Surf, Skate and Create

Ages 7 – 15

Campers 7-15 will be immersed in a summer of lasting memories powered by H2flo, Florida’s only surf skate create experience. In this week-long camp, campers will surf three times a week and skate each day. Your child will learn the fundamentals of surfing and skating in order to build confidence, as well as getting in touch with their creative side.
 
Campers will work on developing their strength and agility through a variety of sports and activities including swimming. All campers will be able to tap into their creative side by designing their very own skateboard & t-shirts to take home. Make it a summer of first-time experiences that last a lifetime. Please note that on beach days, campers will meet at Saint Andrew’s School and be transported to the beach. Surfing will take place at Deerfield Beach and Gulf Stream Park. All skate safety equipment will be supplied for campers with an option to purchase your own.

Robotics

Ages 5-8

Dive headfirst into the fast-paced world of robotics while blending different aspects of science, engineering, technology, math, and art. Robotics engineers create traditional and new inventive circuits. They even act like magicians while using unique conductors – bananas, playdough, and human friends. Once the young engineers understand how electricity works, it’s time for Battle Bot competitions, robotic arms, coding and more. Campers even choose 3D printer projects to give their robots unique personalities. It’s a non-stop high-tech FUN and innovative experience!

Boys Lacrosse

Ages 9 - 13

Our intermediate Boys lacrosse camp will focus on developing skills which will quickly move to more advanced concepts.

Using a combination of position specific work coupled with small field games, campers will learn to play the right way, play loose, and have fun. They will get opportunities to put the newly-learned skills into action each session.

Some skills that we will focus on: Groundballs Dodging to the goal Playing position defense Shooting philosophy Even-man, extra-man, and man-down concepts. Our staff prides themselves on teaching players both the mental aspect of the game and the physical aspect. Players need to understand why things are done while learning how to do them. This develops the total lacrosse player.

Campers will need a stick, gloves, helmet, shoulder pads, mouthpiece, cleats. Athletic supporter recommended but not mandatory.

Vet Camp

Ages 7 – 11

Dogs, cats, lizards, tortoises, snakes, hedgehogs and more! Young animal lovers learn how to be responsible pet owners while learning about proper nutrition, habitats, cleaning, bathing, and feeding. As young vet techs, campers conduct simulations on stuffed toy animals to assess symptoms while practicing CPR and wound care. Then, it’s time for high-tech learning with microscope samples, compare animal x-rays and much more. Throughout the week, campers prepare for their field trip tour at Boca Veterinary Clinic in their new lab coats!

Marine Biology Ocean Adventure

Ages 9 – 12

June 17 – June 28, 2019

In this exciting two-week learning and adventure camp, you will “dive” into the science and nature of our surrounding aquatic ecosystems.  Each day will include an ocean adventure field trip and a marine biology lab learning experience.  Field trips will include snorkeling coral reefs, identifying marine animals, exploring marine rescue and education centers, stand-up paddle boarding through mangroves, snorkeling over the remains of a shipwreck, and contributing to ocean conservation efforts.  Lab learning experiences will allow you to investigate like a marine biologist to make discoveries about aquatic ecological topics such as animal structures and behaviors, animal range of tolerance for environmental conditions, animal adaptations, ecosystem analysis, and marine conservation. 
 
(Although all snorkeling adventures will take place at life-guarded beaches and utilize the assistance of personal flotation devices, participating students must pass a swim test.  Use of personal snorkeling equipment is encouraged to help ensure proper individual fit and support comfort.)

Underwater Robotics

Ages 8 – 12

During this 1 week camp, kids will be learning, building, testing and improving a SeaMATE AngelFish ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle). An ROV is an unmanned vehicle that is controlled by a person on a vessel or on land. A cable that carries electricity to the ROV allows the user to maneuver and perform tasks. The kit consists of easy-to-build parts that are perfectly suiting for students age 8-14. Once built, our ROV is going to be placed in a body of water to pass through a series of obstacles while the kids command it.

Space Camp

Ages 7 – 11

Campers kick off the week learning about the science of space with experiments, safe explosions, space models and more! Learning about the Earth’s atmosphere (compared to other planets’ atmospheres) and the effects of greenhouse gases help campers understand global warming. Once they understand the world around us and how the universe works, it’s time to engineer electrical circuits, rockets, solar ovens and constellation kaleidoscopes. Campers turn into astronauts on Friday while they take a digital SPACE ADVENTURE in our mobile planetarium!

Morning Academic Enrichment

Ages 6-8

This program will support students in preparing for the coming school year with instruction designed to, review concepts from the previous school year that may have been unclear, reinforce skills that a child will need in the coming school year, enrich in areas where a child demonstrates readiness, and in completing any summer reading or other assignments. For students with work already assigned, the intention is to use these assignments as a vehicle to extend and enrich learning while maintaining and supporting academic skills. For literacy, teachers will instruct on phonics, decoding, fluency, and comprehension skills depending on the age and need of the child. For math, teachers will review, reinforce, and enrich in numeracy including place value and comparing number, numerical operations (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication), understanding sum, difference, product, quotient, fact fluency, comparing, estimating, problem-solving, and patterning. This program is open to all students.

Broadcasting

Ages 11 – 14

This two-week summer camp for rising 6th through 8th graders will explore broadcasting using the state of the art Kessler Digital Media Institute. This completely hands-on course will give students exposure to the many facets of creating live productions, including the use of professional broadcast cameras, teleprompters, video switchers, audio equipment, lighting equipment, and live and virtual sets. They will also learn the concepts of video editing using Adobe Premiere Pro CC and how to make exciting graphics and special effects. In addition, students will learn to work as a team assuming roles working both behind the scenes and “on-air”.

Tom Nash is in his first year as a Saint Andrew’s faculty member and has been teaching full time for 15 years. Prior to teaching Tom worked as an actor and performed on Broadway, TV, and Film. He also spent a number of years in Los Angeles behind the camera on film and production sets and brings all of those experiences with him to the classroom and his passion for the Media Arts.

Evening Volleyball Camp

Saint Andrew's Volleyball is offering a Monday through Thursday evening co-ed skills camp for players of all ability levels. The camp, for ages 10 - 14, will center on fundamental skill development. Campers will be learning, and improving, their volleyball skills including serving, passing, setting, hitting through drills, and team dynamics. Play will be divided among the different rotations. Saint Andrew's Head Volleyball Coach, Dawn Jones, will run this camp with the assistance of current Upper School volleyball players. Coach Jones brings Division I college coaching and playing experience, as well as district championships and a final four appearance during her time at Zionsville High School in Indiana. She is also the former club director of Rampage Juniors in Fort Pierce, FL and Junior Eagles Volleyball Club in Indiana.

Camp Rock

Musicians ages 7-15 will learn the different parts of the guitar/ukulele and its functions as well as the basic chords and notes. More advanced musicians will be able to finely tune their skills and expand on their musical appreciation. There will also be a variety of instruments such as keyboards, tambourines, harmonicas, and percussion instruments. Campers will take a field trip to a recording studio and experience the process of recording, engineering, and producing music. All campers will also receive a ukulele to build, paint, and take home at the end of the week. With over 35 combined years of musical experience in recording, performing, and teaching, our Camp Rock staff is sure to guarantee your rockstar to shine!
