Spiritual and Moral Development

Principles of Good Practice for Episcopal Identity

The mission of Saint Andrew's School is to build a community of learners, to provide excellence in education, and to nurture the whole child in mind, body, and spirit. Saint Andrew's School is an independent school in the Episcopal tradition. This tradition expresses itself within the specific structure of the School in three broad areas: worship, academics, student life and community.

Worship:
  1. The Saint Andrew's School Chaplain draws on the Episcopal Church's Book of Common Prayer, to lead regularly scheduled Chapels, including celebrations of religious and civic holidays and special school events.
  2. Saint Andrew's School fosters an atmosphere of appreciation for the diversity and values of the student body including various religious traditions and beliefs.
  3. Saint Andrew's School maintains positive relations with the parish of the Chapel of Saint Andrew, the Episcopal Diocese of Southeast Florida, other Episcopal schools, and is a proud member of the National Association of Episcopal Schools.

Academics:

  1. Saint Andrew's School's students in all three divisions take required courses introducing them to the academic study of religion and theology.
  2. All Saint Andrew's School course offerings foster each student's intellectual curiosity and encourage personal faith development.
  3. At Saint Andrew's School, an atmosphere of openness to the religious dimension of life permeates each classroom environment so that expressions of faith are accepted and affirmed, and students and teachers alike feel comfortable expressing their faiths in unobtrusive ways.

Student Life and Community:
  1. Saint Andrew's School provides opportunities for faculty, staff, parents, and students to enrich their spiritual development by engaging in Bible studies and participating in the activities of faith-based and interfaith groups.
  2. Saint Andrew's School emphasizes the importance of stewardship by encouraging respect for and pride in our community.
  3. Saint Andrew's School's community service programs foster service leadership among our students, faculty, and staff, and promote positive relationships with local, regional, national, and international service organizations.
  4. Honor is a core value at Saint Andrew's School, and the honor system in all three divisions of the School expresses our commitment to the importance of leading moral lives.
