The Globe Theatre’s Margo Gunn Visits Saint Andrew’s

The Saint Andrew’s English department experienced a Globe Theatre education last week as Margo Gunn, an educational instructor at the Globe Theatre in London, offered workshops for faculty and students.

Her work on Wednesday morning began with a workshop for the Lower School and Middle School English teachers.

In the afternoon, Margo held a workshop with Mrs. Gettig’s Sophomore Honors students, and members of the English faculty were invited to observe.

Wednesday ended with Margo offering a workshop for the Upper School English faculty using Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby to demonstrate how the teaching strategies used at the Globe Theatre in London can be applied to fiction as well.

All of the sophomore English classes worked with Margo Gunn on Thursday and Friday to explore Macbeth and A Midsummer Night’s Dream through performance and close reading exercises. Moments of laughter and deep epiphanies ensued.

In addition to being a Globe Theatre instructor, Gunn is a professional actress and director who resides in England and works in Lewes, London, and Hong Kong. Saint Andrew’s is fortunate to have an educator of Mrs. Gunn's caliber to bring an experience usually reserved for the South Bank in London to the school campus.
