Alexia Sotomayor '25 and Diego Balbi '24 Represent Peru at FINA World Junior Swimming Championships
Saint Andrew’s School is well represented this week at the 8th FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in Lima, Peru. The elite competition is being staged in the VIDENA Aquatic Center and runs through Sunday, September 4th. Alexia Sotomayor ’25, Diego Balbi ’24, and Coach Quinn Cassidy ’14 will all take time off from the Scots swimming and diving varsity schedule to represent the host nation of Peru at these Games. Alexia will race in the 50, 100, and 200-meter backstroke events plus the 200-meter butterfly. Diego will compete in all three butterfly events along with the 100-meter and 200-meter Backstroke races. Coach Quinn Cassidy was selected by the Peruvian Federation based on the world rankings turned in by these two outstanding athletes.
Competing in her hometown of Lima, Alexia was selected alongside new World Record Holder David Popovici from Romania as the two athletes for the official press conference to kick off the week on Monday and you can see highlights of that here.
