Chinese Language Department Chair Awarded 2022 NCLC Classroom Grant

The National Chinese Language Conference recently awarded Saint Andrew's language chair Hua Zhang a  2022 NCLC classroom grant of $1,500. Zhang received the award after competing with about 100 Chinese teachers across the country. She said she plans to use her grant to establish a student-created digital library of Chinese books.

"I think this project will help to showcase what our students can do with Chinese language at each grade level and will demonstrate the transferable ATL skills our students have acquired through e-book making," said Zhang. "It will capture not only their journey of Chinese learning, but also provide a platform to promote peer learning." Zhang said the books would also encourage students to develop an awareness and understanding of the perspectives of people from other cultures.
