Scots Tennis Repeats as Boys and Girls State Champions

The Saint Andrew's varsity boys and girls tennis teams competed in the FHSAA Class 1A State Championships on Monday, April 25 and Tuesday, April 26 in Altamonte Springs. Both teams returned to the state tournament as defending champions with the girls team playing for their 6th consecutive title and the boys vying for their 3rd in-a-row.

The girls started the tournament on Tuesday facing Oak Hall in the quarterfinal round. The Scots defeated the Eagles 5-0 advancing to the state semifinals. The boys took on P.K. Yonge, also from Gainesville, and too defeated the Blue Wave 5-0.

The Scots took the courts the following day on Wednesday for their quest of repeating as state champions. The boys and girls teams both faced True North from Miami in the semifinals. Both teams split after the initial doubles round heading into the singles matches 1-1. The boys and girls both battled to defeat True North 4-3 to become one match closer to another state title.

The boys would face St. Stephen's from Bradenton in the final match and the girls would take the courts against Berkeley Prep. The Scots would both head into their singles matches up 2-0 after the doubles round. After two exciting and draining matches, the boys and girls defeated their opponents 4-0 to claim the FHSAA Class 1A State Championship Title.

Senior and Delaware University commit Santianna Chrysopoulo advanced to the final stage at the #1 singles position to compete for an individual state championship title tomorrow (Wednesday).

Congratulations to both the boys and girls teams and to Coach Reid Rafter and Beth Gordon on another incredible year for Saint Andrew's tennis. Go Scots!
