Girls Swimming and Diving Claim Runner-Up State Meet Trophy; Boys Third

Saint Andrew’s Swimmers and Divers braved cold and rainy conditions on Saturday at the FHSAA State Championship Meet in Stuart but refused to allow the elements to dampen their efforts as they brought home 2nd place (girls) and third place (boys) team finishes. Our girls were led by sophomore Aspen Gersper who defended her state title in the 100-yard butterfly with an automatic All-American time of 54.02 and also earned All-American status for her 3rd place finish in the 100 backstroke (54.68). All-American consideration was also earned by Ella Martinez in the 200 yard freestyle and Nicole Aguilar in the 100 yard butterfly. Individually for the boys, sophomore Diego Balbi qualified for All-American with his time of 48.86 in the 100 yard butterfly.

As has been tradition, it was the Scots Relays who made significant waves throughout the contest as All-American consideration times were made by the girls 200 Medley relay of seniors Ella Martinez and Madelyn Rippo and sophomores Aspen Gersper and Logananne Zielinski. The girls 200 freestyle relay led off by Zielinski, with seniors Nicole Aguilar and Nicole Casariego and anchored by junior Erin Miller, also earned All-American consideration. But it was the closer, the girls 400 freestyle relay of Gersper, Aguilar, Miller, and Martinez that not only made All-American qualification, but in epic fashion defeated the field to bring home the Gold Medal in the event. Congratulations to our swimmers, divers and coaches on an amazing season. Go Scots!
