The Scots boys and the girls tennis teams defeated their regional final opponents today and are moving on to the FHSAA State Championships to defend their titles...at last.
The girls defeated Westminster Academy 5-0 and the boys defeated Calvary Christian 5-0. The Scots travel to Altamonte Springs to begin their title defense, which was delayed a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Play begins on Monday, April 26, and will run through Wednesday, April 28. Along with both teams qualifying for the team competition, Sara Snyder, and Jacob Lowen qualified for the individual singles state championships, and the tandems of Snyder and Madison Smith, and Lowen and Andres Fente will compete for individual doubles crowns as well.
Coach Rafter had this to say about the Scots achievement, “To reach states is an accomplishment in and of itself, but to do so in a year like this, with all the obstacles thrown our way, it’s particularly satisfying. This group of student-athletes is an exceptional one, and I know they will compete as hard or harder than anyone we will face.” Go Scots!
