Both the Saint Andrew’s boys and girls tennis teams won the Class 1A District 13 Tennis Championships for the 6th straight time on Wednesday, April14th.
The Scots were led by seniors Jacob Lowen, Isaac Smith, Sara Snyder, and Izzy Forster. The boys squad was filled out by sophomore Ryan Nash, and juniors Andres Fente and Charlie Pizzuti, while the girls were anchored by sophomores Madison Smith and Manci Pal and junior Niamh Harding.
In his first high school post season appearance for the Scots, senior Isaac Smith went undefeated winning both the # 5 singles and the #2 doubles positions, along with partner Ryan Nash.
#1 singles and doubles player Sara Snyder won both titles once again, leaving her with only one blemish in her district tournament career, a loss that was later avenged by a victory over the same opponents in the Individual State Doubles Championship Finals in 2019. Before moving on to play tennis for Furman University in the fall, Snyder will fight to defend her Individual Singles and Doubles titles at the 2021 FHSAA State Championships in Altamonte Springs later this month.
Snyder’s 2019 doubles partner senior Izzy Forster has had an incredibly impressive career district tournament record in her own right! As a 7th grader, Izzy played #5 singles for the Scots and won her first district title. Over the course of her high school career, Forster has tallied an incredible 23-2 overall record in district play, gone undefeated in regionals, with an 18-0 record, and been a part of 4 consecutive State Championship teams before COVID-19 interrupted the streak in 2020. This year Izzy hopes to add one more State Title to her spectacular varsity tennis career.
Finally, University of Chicago commit Jacob Lowen has had arguably the greatest district tennis career of any player, ever. Dating back to his 7th grade year when Jacob played #2 singles and #2 doubles, Jacob has gone an unfathomable 30-0 in both singles and doubles in district match play! This year’s district wins will allow Lowen to once again compete for individual state titles in both singles and doubles, and with team victories in regional play, the Scots will also move on to defend their State Championship Team titles at the end of this month.
Regional play will begin on Tuesday, April 20 at 3:00 pm at Saint Andrew’s for both the boys and the girls varsity tennis teams. Go Scots!
