Coach Hart and Daniella Turner '17 Named to Collegiate All-Decade Team

In 2016, Katrina Selsor, (now Katrina Hart) joined the Saint Andrew’s community as a Middle School PE teacher and the Assistant Girls Varsity Basketball Coach. Coach Hart was a recent graduate of Colorado Mesa University at the time, and an accomplished member of their Women’s Basketball Team.

In her first year at SA, Coach Hart played an integral role in the development of a young Scots junior guard named Daniella Turner. Hart, having recently been a part of the Colorado Mesa University team that reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament, was the perfect role model for Turner. Early on, Coach Hart saw something special in Daniella and the ease with which she played the game. “Daniella was naturally a dominant scorer. That’s what was so special about her in high school. Her ability to put the ball in the basket almost seemed effortless.”

Fast forward to Turner’s senior season. Daniella racked up a bevy of awards including her second straight 4-A All-State selection. This two sport athlete, who competed in track and field as well, was even nominated to be a McDonald’s All-American.

When it was time to think about college, Coach Hart suggested Daniela look at her alma mater, Colorado Mesa University as a potential candidate. “I reached out to my old coach, Coach Wagner,” Hart said, “to build the connection, but it was Daniella’s hard work that allowed her to take her talents to the next level.”

After the recruiting process was said and done, Turner decided on CMU, much to the delight of Coach Hart.  “I knew she (Turner) had the potential to be a dominant player at the next level and it’s so great to see her shining at my alma mater.”

Hart shined at CMU herself, having earned DII Women's Bulletin All-America Honorable Mention and WBCA All-America Honorable Mention honors in her senior year. Hart averaged 14.4 points, dealt 3.6 assists per game and grabbed 8.2 rebounds per game to lead the Mavericks.

Turner is having quite a career in her own right leading the Mavs to their second consecutive NCAA tournament appearance in 2019, averaging 15.8 ppg to lead the team in that category. With her senior season still to come, Turner has already scored 573 career points with a single game career high of 29. Turner was rewarded with a WBCA All-America Honorable mention selection and a First Team All-RMAC (conference) selection her junior season and hopes to add to the accolades this year.

Hart and Turner’s connection does not end with simply having played in the same college program, however.  In November of 2020, Colorado Mesa University announced the five members of their All-Decade team, and both Hart and Turner were recognized.

As Turner enters her senior season, she hopes to do what her mentor did before her and lead her team to the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament or further. No matter what happens, Hart is thrilled to be a member of the same All-Decade team as her former student. “It is so cool to see how much success Daniella is having at my alma mater. She has continued to grow her game and has put in countless hours to get to where she is, and I couldn't be more proud of her.”

The Scots are proud of both of you, Coach Hart and Daniella! Congratulations and go Scots!
