Ellie Tymorek '21 Featured in the Delray Sun

Delray Beach’s Ellie Tymorek likes being on top, especially given all it took to get there.

Tymorek, 18, a senior at St. Andrew’s School, battled humid conditions to capture the FHSAA Class 2A state championship with a clocking of 18:27.6 at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee.

“It is so surreal,” said Tymorek, who joined Francisca Rodriguez (2002, Class 1A) as the only St. Andrew’s runners to win state individual cross country championships. “I don’t think it has sunk in yet. I am so excited.”
“Nor knowing what was going to happen with cross country because of the pandemic was really hard,” said Tymorek, a Dartmouth University commit. “When we were told we were going to have the opportunity to run for a state championship helped motivate me and get me through all of the doubt that I went through the past few months.”

Tymorek, who finished second at last year’s Class 1A state meet, also battled through a stress fracture at the close of last year. She missed out on the state title, falling by three seconds to Pine Crest’s Tsion Yared, who won her third straight Class 2A girls championship and fourth individual title overall.
