Girls Swimming and Diving Capture State Runner-Up Trophy; Boys Finish Third

Saint Andrew’s Varsity Swimmers and Divers competed in the FHSAA 1A State Championship meet on Sunday, November 15 in Stuart. The girls team placed second in the state and boys finished third overall.

The girls 200 medley relay kicked off the evening by winning the State Title and All-American accolades with a time of 1:43.35.  Ella Martinez led the relay off with backstroke, followed by Lucy Miller breaststroke, Nicole Aguilar butterfly, and Stella Urness anchored the relay with freestyle to seal the victory. Freshman Aspen Gersper earned two big victories of her own winning titles in the 100 back (54.28) and the 100 fly (54.51) - both amazing swims were named Automatic All-American status.

Senior Tiago Pereira electrified the crowd touching first in the 50-yard freestyle with an eye-popping 19.71 seconds only to learn minutes later that he had been disqualified for swimming too far underwater off his racing start. Undaunted, Tiago returned within twenty minutes to post an amazing 47.22 school record and All-American time in the 100-yard butterfly to earn his spot at the top of the podium.

Erin Miller swam a great race in claiming the silver medal in the 200 free with a time of 1:49.25.  Also taking second, the girls 200 free relays of Aspen Gersper, Lucia Miller, Stella Urness, and Erin Miller posted a new school record for the girls in 1:34.10. The Girls 400 free relay of Gersper, Aguilar, Martinez, and Erin Miller also won a silver with a time of 3:24.76.
