Boys and Girls Golf Compete at FHSAA State Championships
The boys and girls varsity golf teams traveled to Howey-in-the-Hills to compete in the FHSAA Class 1A State Championships on November 3-4 at Mission Inn Resort and Club. The girls and Coach Pam Elders were heading into this year's tournament hoping to improve on their 4th place finish in 2019. The team faced tough conditions, but finished the first round of the tournament in 5th place overall led by junior Amelie Alcantara that completed the day with a score of 69 (-3) putting her in third place.
The wind prevailed on the second day and final round of the tournament at Las Colinas, but the team were consistent finishing the tournament 5th overall in the state. Amelie placed 10th overall as an individual in the state followed by Hope Hall, Jennie Pan, Alana Hall, and Gabriella Albert.
Coach Michael Meredith and the boys team were excited to compete in the FHSAA Class 1A State Championships after qualifying with their third place finish at regionals. The boys also faced tough conditions on the championship course, El Campeon, and were in 15th place after round one. Senior Justin Ross, playing #1 for the Scots all year, found himself five strokes off the lead after shooting a 76 (+4) in the first round. The boys improved on their first day performance finishing 13th overall in the state at the conclusion of the tournament from solid play from Char Russekoff, Mason Tome, Rene Nicolas, and Casey Granata.
