Upper School Fall Athletics Start Dates and Information

We are all extremely excited to welcome our student-athletes back on campus for the start of our conditioning programs. Please see the schedule below for each team and specifics related to start dates and locations.
 
All parents must have completed and submitted to Magnus Health all required FHSAA documentation for their child prior to any athletic participation. Parents should access this information through their MySA account, “Resources”, and then the Magnus Health/FHSAA tab.
 
The following forms must be completed:
  1. EL2 (Pre-Participation Physical Evaluation)
  2. EL3 (Consent and Release from Liability Certificate)
  3. GA4* (Affidavit of Compliance with the Policies on Athletic Recruiting & Non-Traditional Student Participation) *This form is to be completed by new to Saint Andrew’s 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students.
All students are expected to report to their team check-in location immediately after school. Students that have selected SA@Home should arrive at the team check-in location no later than 3:15 PM. Students arriving after 3:15 PM should report directly to the athletic training room for screening and a pass for participation.
 
All students will be screened for signs/symptoms of COVID-19 prior to participation which will include a list of questions and a temperature check. Any student with positive symptoms reported will not be permitted to participate in the athletic activity and will be sent to the infirmary for isolation and further evaluation. Parents will be contacted.
 
The first couple of practices will be dedicated to protocols that are in place to enhance the safety of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff. Coaches will be communicating directly with student-athletes and parents in regard to schedules and other specific details related to their program and sport. Our coaches will also ask that you download the Saint Andrew’s School app by Straxis from the App Store to allow us to communicate in regard to practice changes, weather interruptions, and other pertinent information.
 
Our return to athletic activities on campus will resume in clearly defined phases. These stages begin with small, isolated group workouts allowing for physical distancing and acclimatization. Next, they progress strategically, approximately every week or two depending on local conditions, allowing the groups to expand and activities to increase.

Below, please find a few expectations and reminders for our student-athletes and parents.

Student-athletes will be... 
  1. assigned to groups;
  2. screened for signs/symptoms of COVID-19 by coaches or athletic trainers prior to participation which will involve a questionnaire and temperature check (students answering yes to any question or with a temperature of 100.4 degrees or above will not be permitted to participate and referred to the infirmary for evaluation. Parents will be notified); 
  3. required to wear face coverings when entering and exiting facilities and when physical distancing is difficult. Face coverings will be worn by all coaches, but not be expected to be worn by student-athletes during physical activity;
  4. physically distanced at all times during activity and contact including, high fives, fist bumps, or hugs will not be permitted;
  5. provided with a space to change for their activity after school in a physically distanced setting and monitored by coaches;
  6. required to bring own towel, clothing, and water bottle with enough water or sports drink to last the entire activity;
  7. provided access to hand washing stations or hand sanitizer before, during, and after activity;
  8. required to leave facility immediately after activity. 
Saint Andrew’s Student-Athlete Responsibilities
  1. Wash hands thoroughly before and after activity
  2. Bring and use hand sanitizer
  3. Bring enough water or sports drink in marked water bottle for entire activity
  4. Do not touch or share anyone else’s equipment, water, snack, towel, bag, etc.
  5. Practice social distancing at all times
  6. Wash and sanitize all equipment before and after every activity
  7. Avoid group celebrations including no high fives, fist bumps, hugs, handshakes, etc.
Saint Andrew’s Parent Responsibilities
  1. Ensure your child is healthy and check your child’s temperature prior to any activity
  2. Limited or avoid carpooling
  3. Ensure your child has transportation after activity. Students will not be permitted to hang out on campus before or after activity
  4. Ensure that your child has enough water or sports drink at every session
  5. Stay in the car or adhere to social distance requirements
  6. Ensure your child’s clothing and equipment are washed after every training session
  7. Notify the coach, athletic trainer, or infirmary immediately if your child becomes ill for any reason
Swimming and Diving:
Juniors and Seniors ONLY will report on September 10. Middle school varsity swimmers, Freshmen, and Sophomores ONLY will report on September 11 for afternoon practice. ALL swimmers and divers will report together on September 14.
 
Swimmers and divers are required to report to the Malnik Family Athletic Center for their screening and temperature checks immediately after school. Wearing a face covering, students must enter through the North doors closest to the fitness center and walk to the South doors to the check-in station. Students will then be directed to the locker rooms to change for practice where coaches will monitor locker room capacity. Students will be asked to bring all of their personal items to the pool deck to be placed on the bleachers under the West canopy.
 
Students arriving to the check-in location after 3:15 PM must report to the athletic training room for screening and a pass to attend practice.
 
Football:
Juniors and Seniors ONLY will report on September 10. Freshmen and Sophomores ONLY will report on September 11. Coach Robertson will communicate specific schedule to students moving forward.
 
Football players are required to report to the Shapiro Family Adventure Gymnasium (rock wall gym) for their screening and temperature checks immediately after school. Wearing a face covering, students must enter through the main lobby of the gymnasium for their check-in. Students will then enter the gymnasium and be assigned a table for their personal items. Students will then use the restrooms in the lobby to change for practice. Changing spaces have been prepared to minimize numbers with coaches monitoring the capacity.
 
Students arriving to the check-in location after 3:15 PM must report to the athletic training room for screening and a pass to attend practice.
 
Cross Country:
Juniors and Seniors ONLY will report on September 10. Freshmen and Sophomores ONLY will report on September 11. ALL cross-country student-athletes will report together on September 14.
 
Cross country runners are required to report to the Booster Club Athletic Pavilion for their screening and temperature checks immediately after school. Students are required to wear face coverings to and from practices and when changing in designated areas. After the screening, students will then be permitted to use the pavilion restrooms to change for practice. Changing spaces have been prepared to minimize numbers with coaches monitoring the capacity. Personal items will be stored under the covering at the pavilion.
 
Students arriving to the check-in location after 3:15 PM must report to the athletic training room for screening and a pass to attend practice.
 
Volleyball:
Juniors and Seniors ONLY will report on September 10. Freshmen and Sophomores ONLY will report on September 11. All volleyball student-athletes will report together on September 14.
 
Volleyball players are required to report to the Scott Family Gymnasium foyer for their screening and temperature checks immediately after school. Wearing a face covering, students must enter through the main lobby of the gymnasium for their check-in. Students will then use the restrooms in the lobby to change for practice. Changing spaces have been prepared to minimize numbers with coaches monitoring the capacity. Personal items may be stored in the foyer during practices.
 
Students arriving to the check-in location after 3:15 PM must report to the athletic training room for screening and a pass to attend practice.
 
Cheerleading:
Seniors ONLY will report on September 14. Juniors ONLY will report on September 17. All varsity cheerleaders will report on September 21. The coaches will be communicating specific schedule to students moving forward.
 
Cheerleaders will report to the Mariani Great Hall (Crangi Foyer) for their screening and temperature checks immediately after school. Screenings will take place outside the Crangi Foyer. Once students complete their screening, they will be asked to enter the Crangi Foyer where they may use the restroom to change for practice. Changing spaces have been prepared to minimize numbers with coaches monitoring the capacity. Personal items may be stored in the foyer during practices. Cheerleaders will practice on the grass on the North side of the Mariani Great Hall.
 
Students arriving to the check-in location after 3:15 PM must report to the athletic training room for screening and a pass to attend practice.
 
Golf:
Returning members of the varsity golf teams will be contacted by our coaches to coordinate personal practice times and match schedule. Once we are cleared to have group practices, our coaches will communicate specific details.
 
We are currently evaluating the ability to complete a team selection process for new students. Those interested in participating in golf should email Craig Ashley at craig.ashley@saintandrews.net by Wednesday, September 16.
 
Bowling:
Students interested in bowling should email Coach Newnam at cindy.newnam@saintandrews.net.
