Benjamin Schiller ’20 Named Finalist for Florida High School Journalist of the Year

Benjamin Schiller ’20 has been named one of two finalists for Florida High School Journalist of the Year - the highest high school journalism honor in the state. Benjamin competed against journalism students from all 67 Florida counties. The winner of the award will be announced in a virtual award ceremony on August 15, 2020.
Florida High School Journalist of the Year award is sponsored by the Florida chapter of The Society of Professional Journalists. As part of the adjudication process for the award, judges looked at talent, writing ability, and impact on the student's high school media programs. Benjamin submitted his senior year broadcasting demo reel, his October 2019 interview on impeachment with Congressman Ted Deutch, article samples, and a prewritten recommendation. During his four years at Saint Andrew’s, Benjamin founded and served as president of the Scots Media Club and was the Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Bagpiper.
“Benjamin’s involvement in all forms of media journalism at SA is unmatched,” stated Journalism Teacher Emily Faber. “His journalistic sixth sense has led him to interviewing sources and investigating stories that affect the broader community beyond Saint Andrew’s, which really makes him a standout worthy of this great honor by Florida’s Chapter of SPJ.”
In the fall, Benjamin will be attending the Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University and will major in broadcast and digital journalism.
