SA’s Student Publication The Bagpiper Wins 3rd Place in Social Media Category of the 2020 Excellence in High School Journalism Awards
Saint Andrew’s celebrates the Upper School Newspaper The Bagpiper for winning Third Place in the social media category of the 2020 Excellence in High School Journalism Awards.
“The Bagpiper staff, consisting of 12 Upper School students, split their time between writing and designing the newsmagazine and populating the @sabagpiper Instagram account with meaningful content. They reached their goal of increasing their Instagram following by 25% this year and their focus during distance learning was to create connections during quarantine,” said Bagpiper Faculty Advisor Emily Faber.
“It’s encouraging to be acknowledged for the fourth year in a row by the Palm Beach Post for their social media efforts. There’s a lot of excellent student journalists in Palm Beach County and it’s an honor for our students to be among them,” she added.

In a school year like no other, Palm Beach County’s high school newspapers reminded their audiences over and over that weighty issues abounded on campus well before a pandemic hit.
Student journalists this year probed prescription drug abuse, exposed overcrowded school buses, weighed the merits of class rankings and called on the school district to cut ties with Chick-fil-A – all while navigating their studies and the choppy waters of adolescence.
Those and many other examples of outstanding writing, editing, photography and design – all before the coronavirus closed schools in March – were recognized Tuesday in The Palm Beach Post’s annual Excellence in High School Journalism Awards ceremony.
Usually announced at an awards luncheon attended by more than 100 student journalists and Post newsroom employees, this year’s awards were revealed in an online video presentation.
