Jack Rogers ’22 Provides Sweet Service Through The Covid Cupcake Campaign
In February, before the pandemic hit the United States, Jack Rogers ’22 volunteered at Feeding South Florida. He was shocked to hear that over 700,000 people in South Florida struggle with food insecurities. Knowing that COVID-19 has only served to amplify the food insecurities throughout the nation, Jack was compelled to help out through a new initiative he created through his business, JackedUpCakes, called the “Covid Cupcake Campaign."
As part of the “Covid Cupcake Campaign," Jack accepts four orders for a dozen cupcakes at $50 per order. The customer chooses the flavor, frosting color, and sprinkles. He sells, bakes, and delivers the orders to the customers on Sundays. One hundred percent of the proceeds go to Feeding South Florida and that money helps pay for 1,400 meals weekly to those in need.
“During my visit to Feeding South Florida, it was so sad when I found out that over 235,000 of those who are food insecure are children,” offered Jack. “South Florida has been hit especially hard with a 600% increase in Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties,” he added.
Jack launched the campaign on May 1, 2020, and has already raised over $1,000 providing over 7,350 meals to those in need. He plans on running the campaign throughout the summer and hopes to raise awareness about this issue of food insecurity.
Jack opens up orders every Saturday at 3:00 pm and gives updates on social media @JackedUpCakes on Instagram and Facebook.
