Freshman Cristi Haley ’23 Makes PPE & Face Shields with 3D Printer

Cristi Haley ’23 was so moved by the personal sacrifice made by healthcare workers during the COVID pandemic, that she wanted to find a way to help. She decided that making PPE gear is something she could do from home to make a positive impact for heroes who need it.
“Everyday first responders are going to work and risking their lives, and many have little to no protection against the virus,” said Cristi. “I saw the shortage in PPE gear, and decided I could help by making face shields.” Cristi purchased a 3D Printer, found an NIH approved design, researched local organizations that could use them, and began printing the face shields.
Cristi taught herself how to produce these face shields and located the organizations that could effectively deliver the PPE gear. She has been running a 3D printer running 16-20 hours a day. As she became involved in organizations such as MiamiFightingCovid and FAU ADHUS, she also realized that some of them needed money to pay for the supplies to complete the face shields. She started a fundraiser to donate excess funds to them.
