Scots Rita Dicarlo ’21, Ian Noble ’21, Tristan Moss ’21, Tara Bathaii ’21 & Venus Wang ’22 Provide Star Service to the Community

In times of distress, Saint Andrew’s School students are known for drawing upon their spirit of service to support those in need. Over the past several weeks, scores of Scots, including Rita Dicarlo ’21, Ian Noble ’21, Tristan Moss ’21, Tara Bathaii ’21, and Venus Wang ’22 have devoted themselves to responding to the COVID-19 crisis in truly inspiring fashion.

Junior Rita Dicarlo spent the better part of her week engaging in the Earth Month Challenge by turning found objects into eco-conscious artwork, in addition to creating a home advocacy sign in support of environmental conservation efforts.

Track and Cross Country teammates, juniors Ian Noble and Tristan Moss, operationalized their Running For a Purpose personal project to donate over 250 masks to North Broward Medical Center. During the “Mile-A-Mask” challenge, participants were motivated to run 9-minute miles (or better), with each successful mile converted into a donation on behalf of the Running For a Purpose organization.

And speaking of masks, junior Tara Bathaii recently sewed 40 homemade masks from raw fabric and donated the entirety of her creations to West Boca Medical Center. Tara and her friends hosted a mask-making party on May 1 where her methodologies were shared with the rest of her peers in an effort to invoke the spirit of what we hope will become a community-wide project. For those who were unable to join the mask-making party, click here to see Tara’s Mask Making Tutorial. Please also feel free to visit Joann’s Fabric to secure your materials and get to work.

Sophomore Venus Wang helped to organize and sort food items at Feeding South Florida in an effort to continue supporting the food insecure in our own neighborhoods. Venus had this to say about her recent experience: "I felt extremely happy and fortunate to be able to help out the community. In addition to social distancing procedures that were enforced and sanitary precautions, I felt safe in the environment and [proud] that I had made a difference.”

Saint Andrew applauds all the ways these Scots and many others meet the community's need with superb service. Go Scots!
