Scots Experience Exceptional Ballroom Dancing Workshop in March

Saint Andrew's students from Middle School Dance Classes, Upper School Dance Classes, and Dance Company were filled with gratitude to have the opportunity to participate in a special Ballroom Dance workshop on February 29 and March 7.

The dance workshop, generously sponsored by Friends of the Arts (FOA), was led by the Co-Owners of the Fred Astaire Ballroom Dance Studio in Boca Raton, Sayra Vazquez, and James Brann.

The workshop exposed students to additional genres, enabled Scots to work rigorously in preparation for future performances, and aid in developing specific technical skills in genres that are not available on an everyday basis.

The richness of a robust dance training program hinges on the diversity of training - and having professionals from Fred Astaire Dance Studio at SA brought added diversity to campus. “Exposure to professionals with different styles of teaching, technique, and repertoire is critical in the development of the whole dancer,” said Ms. Rosen, SA Dance Instructor.

All students involved in Dance Company or classes were invited to this introductory technique class and Ms. Rosen and Ms. Petronio also took full advantage of the visiting professionals’ expertise. “We learned the repertoire along with the students which directly enhances instruction with our students here at Saint Andrew’s School,” offered Ms. Petronio, SA Dance Instructor.

Sayra Vazquez has an extensive dance background. A few of her many achievements include World Swing Champion, Heritage Classic Theater Arts Champion, First Coast Classic Champion, appearances in 2 Super Bowl Halftime shows and numerous TV commercials. James Brann started his professional dancing career right here in Boca Raton with Fred Astaire Dance Studios. Since then, he has achieved recognition at both the Regional and National levels with his students, as well as with his professional partners. His achievements include Fred Astaire National Pro/Am Champion, Fred Astaire National Professional Novice Champion, First Coast Classic Champion, and Heritage Classic Theater Arts Champion. In 2016, Sayra and James became co-owners of the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Boca Raton.

Saint Andrew’s School graciously thanks the Fred Astaire Dance Studio for dancing up a storm with Scots, as students and teachers look forward to future partnerships and opportunities.
