Palm Beach Post - March 23, 2020

Saint Andrew's senior center and Yale commit Yussif Basa-Ama was named the Florida Dairy Farmers Class 3A Player of the Year, and the Scots’ John O’Connell was named the Coach of the Year, the organization revealed on Monday.
The duo led Saint Andrew’s boys basketball to their first state championship in program history. Basa-Ama had 23 points and seven rebounds in Saint Andrew’s 57-50 championship victory over Jacksonville-Andrew Jackson earlier this month.

For the season, Basa-Ama averaged 15.3 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.6 blocks and 1.4 assists per game. Along with the players of the years in the six other classifications, Basa-Ama is now a finalist for Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Basketball.

In his 35th year coaching at Saint Andrew’s, O’Connell won his first state title. It came in the fourth title game appearance of his career. After the Scots went 26-5 this season, O’Connell now has a career record 672-262 record. He is now a finalist for the Florida Dairy Farmers Boys Basketball Coach of the Year award.

Congratulations to both Yussif and Coach O'Connell and to the entire team on an amazing year for Saint Andrew's. Go Scots!
