Amanda Howard ’20 and Ha Nguyen ’20 Receive Gold Award for 2019 CLASS National Chinese Essay Contest
Amanda Howard ’20 and Ha Nguyen ’20 entered Chinese essays into the National Chinese Essay Contest in October 2019 and earned the Gold Award for their submissions. This is the sixteenth annual National Essay contest through the Chinese Language Association of Secondary-Elementary Schools, of which Saint Andrew’s is a member.
Their accomplishment is not a surprise to Mrs. Hua Zhang, Chair of the Chinese Language Department. “The intensity of their interests in the Chinese language and the sparks of brilliance during my conversations with them in class have always been great. Their Chinese language skillsets are immense and they have mastered the Chinese language as proud Saint Andrew’s Scots.”
Amanda and Ha’s phenomenal work ethic is not only a sign of greater aims, but also shows a deep-seated humanism and acknowledgment for other cultures. “I do visualize them being an uplifting force to their generation of graduates to bridge and heal in cross-cultural communication," added Mrs. Zhang.
The Chinese Language Association of Secondary-Elementary Schools has a mission to provide vision, leadership, and support for PreK-12 educators to advance quality teaching and learning of the Chinese language and culture. Scots have proven time and again that SA is a member school that is fully engaged and active in teaching and learning the Chinese language. Go Scots!
