Swimming and Diving Captures 10th Consecutive County Championship Title

The swimming and diving teams confirmed a decade of dominance at the 2019 Palm Beach County Championships this past weekend by winning the overall team title for the tenth straight year. The Scots posted 736 points to finish ahead of Jupiter (674), King’s Academy (639), Boca High (475), and Suncoast (303) as the rest of the top five teams. More than thirty schools participated and our girls’ team also won a title led by Junior Emily Trieschmann who was named the 2019 Swimmer of the Meet. Emily won both of her events in Automatic All-American qualifying times of 1:48.63 (200-yard free) and 4:48.07 (500-yard free) the latter in a new Palm Beach County Meet Record.
Saint Andrew’s swimmers Lucy Miller, Aspen Gersper, and Tiago Pereira also won individual county champion titles. Lucy took the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.22, Aspen captured the 100 free in 50.96, and Tiago took the honors in the 100 fly in 51.18. All three swimmers also contributed podium performances in their second events with Tiago earning a Silver in the 50 free (21.42), Aspen runner-up in the girls 50 free (23.84), and Lucy was third in that same race (24.14).
Other top individual performers for our Scots included Nicole Aguilar who grabbed a pair of silver medals in the 200-yard Individual Medley (2:08.90) and the 100 fly (56.82); Erin Miller third in the 500 free (4:56.64); Nicole Casariego third in the 100 free (53.08); Ryan Nordheim third 100 free (48.01); Gabby Beltrano third in the 100 back (58.86), and Jack Patton third in 1-meter diving (366.65).
Our Saint Andrew’s relay teams once again served as our anchor for excellence as we captured the top spot four times out of six relays. The Boys 200-yard Freestyle Relay remained undefeated this season and established a new Palm Beach County Meet Record with Zach Moore (21.94), Ryan Nordheim (21.34), Seth Berke (21.89), and Tiago Pereira (20.99) combined to notch a 1:26.16 mark. The girls managed to set a county meet mark in the 400 Freestyle Relay as Erin Miller (52.38), Aspen Gersper (50.78), Nicole Aguilar (52.11), and Emily Trieschmann (51.13) combined to establish a new record time of 3:26.40. In addition, our girls swept all the relays by winning the 200 Medley Relay in 1:46.81 with Nicole Casariego (back/27.48), Lucy Miller (breast/29.40), Madelyn Rippo (fly 26.27), and Nicole Aguilar (free 23.66) and taking the 200-yard Freestyle Relay in 1:35.20 with Lucy Miller (23.81), Aspen Gersper (23.58), Erin Miller (23.85), and Emily Trieschmann (23.96).
Our AquaScots have one more home meet – Senior Night at 6pm this Thursday, October 10 at the Duff Tyler Aquatic Complex and then complete the week with the Palm League Championships at Pine Crest on Saturday, October 12.
Congratulations Scots!
