11 Scots Recognized as Commended Students in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program

Saint Andrew’s School proudly congratulates 11 members from the Class of 2020 who have been named as Commended Students in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program. Commended Students are recognized for their exceptional academic promise demonstrated by their outstanding performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

Seniors Meredith Anderson, Seth Berke, Alexander Bowman, Nikhil Charanjiva, Sophie Gorup, Michael Graves, Sydney Hoffman, Jackson May, Connor O’Reilly, Ethan Palmer, and Hayden Sikora have been named and congratulated by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) for the well-deserved accomplishment.

About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their hard work and high performance on the qualifying test. Although these students will not continue in the 2020 competition for National Merit Scholarship Awards, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2020 competition.

“Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a spokesperson for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”

NMSC is a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance. The organization was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program to offer students financial opportunities in education.

SA congratulates and honors these seniors on the earned accomplishment as we wish them nothing but success in their upcoming academic endeavors.
