Just Keep Swimming: SA Water Polo Featured in Sun-Sentinel

Sun-Sentinel sports reporter Gary Curreri recently took time to visit Saint Andrew’s School to write about the success of the SA Water Polo program. His article mentioned SA water polo’s strong players, successful accomplishments, and current search for a new head coach. Without a doubt, the 2019-2020 Scots water polo program is sure to continue to make a big splash this year in competition at the district and state level.

Saint Andrew’s is known by many for its top-performing Aquatics Program, and great coaching is a key part of that equation. This past summer, Kurt Predmore stepped down from his position as SA water polo coach to pursue other ventures in his life. For the last decade, Coach Predmore played a large role in the success of the program. Although his coaching style and presence on the pool deck will be missed, the elite team of competitors is encouraged by the strength of current players and fresh coaching perspectives.

Saint Andrew’s School recently hired Interim Coach Fred Guzman to help prepare the water polo players for the new school year. Coach Guzman guided the club team at the recent Sunshine State Games in Coral Springs and is making an impact on campus with student-athletes.

“He [Coach Guzman] has brought a lot of enthusiasm and energy to our practices,” said Sid Cassidy, SA Aquatics Director.

This same energy is replicated in the pool by SA senior Seth Berke, who leads the boys 18-under club team. Seth has been playing water polo since the young age of 11 and is expected to serve as team captain this upcoming season for both swimming and water polo.

“He is a great leader,” said Coach Cassidy.

“I just love the team aspect of the whole thing,” said Seth. “I used to be a swimmer, and it is all individual. When I went to water polo, I enjoyed the camaraderie, [and] making friends. The water polo community is super small, so you get to meet everyone and become friends.”
