French and Chinese Students Win First Place at Palm Beach Language Fair

SA is proud to announce that World Language students are champions in the region! Saint Andrew’s World Languages students were thrilled to attend the Palm Beach Language Fair where they won first place overall at the Palm Beach Language Fair.

SA students joined over 300 students at this event from several local public and private schools on February 2, 2019, at Boca Raton Community High School. The Palm Beach Language Fair was both a celebration and a competition of students’ abilities in language and culture.

Students in the Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School competed in different categories in a demonstration of their linguistic abilities. Both Lower School and Middle School students won second place in their divisions. Numerous Scots also took home individual awards.

World Language Scots showed their talent in one or two of the following categories:
  • Reading Comprehension
  • Impromptu Speech
  • Declamation
  • Visual and Performing Arts Performance
  • Parade of Nations
SA French and Chinese teachers joined Department Chairs as judges at the event and also witnessed this amazing showing. "What a powerful experience to share our love of language and culture with students and faculty from local schools. Our Scots were excellent! They can be proud of their accomplishments, and they were great ambassadors of our school,” commented Mrs. Cyd Anthony, World Languages Department Chair.

With important diversity, equity, and inclusivity school-wide objectives in mind, Cyd Anthony sees this first place showing as one that aligns with the school’s diversity goals in a unique way.

“I am pleased that our participation in this event promotes international-mindedness and is a celebration of cultural diversity,” she added.

All students were awarded a ribbon based on their performance. During the Upper School Assembly on February 15, award winners and scholarship recipients will be announced and celebrated in front of their SA peers.

Congratulations to World Language Scots!
